Municipal Code 5.04 - Business Licenses and Regulations: It is necessary that occupation taxes be levied and fixed for the purpose of securing revenue to assist in defraying the cost of street lighting and road maintenance and the cost of other necessary municiipal services. The taxes imposed shall be in addition to general ad valorem taxes now or hereafter levied pursuant to law. The levy or collection of a license fee upon any business shall not be construed to be a license or permit of the city to the person engaged in any business which is unlawful, illegal, or prohibited by the laws of the State or the United States or by the ordinances of the city.
It is unlawful for a person to transact any business in the City without first obtaining a Business Tax License. A Business Tax License authorizes the holder to transact business at the location designated on the license. Written site permission is required if the business person does not already own or lease the property. Evidence of doing business includes the use of advertisement in the newspaper, radio, television, placement of signs or posters or other means conspicuously displayed for public view. Receipt of the license does not imply compliance with zoning, planning, building safety, and fire safety regulations. You will need to comply with these requirements.
